Governor accepts son’s jailing for murder then nspoils it with ridiculous political statements

28 Sep

MIDLANDS Governor Jason Machaya says he accepts the High Court ruling in which his son Farai and his three accomplices were convicted and jailed for murdering a Gokwe villager.
Governor Machaya said he had faith in the country’s judiciary and those who break the law should be punished accordingly.
“I accept the verdict that came out of the courts. I do not condone any act of violence, worse still that destroys life.

“It’s natural that punishment must be given to those that acted outside the law of the country, including my son, Farai,” said Governor Machaya.
He said he was sorry for the incident that claimed Moses Chokuda’s life.
Governor Machaya said his family would soon engage the Chokuda family with a view to compensating them in line with the dictates of African culture.

“I sincerely extend my apology to the bereaved family. Now that the courts have done their part, we will meet as the Machaya family and engage the Chokuda family with a view to compensating them in line with our own culture that seeks to harmonise relations among families whenever such tragic events happen. I hope this will put to rest the unnecessary agony,” he said.

Governor Machaya, who is also Zanu-PF provincial chairperson for the Midlands, said it was unfortunate that some political parties and certain sections of the media decided to gain mileage by politicising the death of Moses Chokuda.

“I am happy that the court has completely revealed that the matter was not politically motivated as was alleged by many media houses and some political parties.
“Let me take this opportunity to advise citizens not to take the law into their own hands. They should always use the official structures of Government to seek redress as it is these structures that are mandated to deal with different issues that arise in our social lives,” he said.

Farai (29) and his accomplices, Abel Maposa (52) Edmore Gana (29) and his younger brother Bothwell (26) and two other accomplices, Obert Gavi and Tirivashoma Mawadze (both aged 25) fatally assaulted Moses Chokuda in 2009. Justice Nicholas Mathonsi, sitting with assessors Messrs Jameson Lex Dhlula and Wellington Takawira Matemba, found Farai Machaya, Maposa, Edmore and Bothwell Gana guilty of murder with constructive intent and sentenced them to 18 years in prison each.
The fifth and sixth persons, soldiers Gavi and Mawadze were found guilty of a lesser offence of assault and were sentenced to 12 months in prison, wholly suspended.

First black child diagnosed with rare “Benjamin Button” ageing disease is South African

September 9th, 2011 by Zanele Mji

This is twelve year-old Ontlametse Phalatse and her mother Bellon.  She’s the first black child in history to be disgnosed with the extremely rare condition Progeria, which accelerates the body’s ageing process.

It’s the genetic condition that took the life of Die Antwoord’s DJ $olarize (Leon Botha) earlier this year.  At 26 Botha was the world’s oldest Progeria sufferer.  The condition is said to be the inspiration behind the movie “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” where the main character is born an old man.

Ontlametse calls herself the First Lady because, “I’m the first black child with this disease…. Which other black child do you know with this disease?” She asked a journalist.  Living in Gauteng, Ontlametse is one of only two African children diagnosed with the disease.  The other is a five year-old white girl also in South Africa.

The vast majority of Progeria sufferers pass away by age 21, most of them around 13.  Still, Ontlametse wishes to be a psychologist so that she can help other people to accept themselves the way she has.  She admits that classmates can be mean, but she doesn’t care what people say about her.

Ontlametse already suffers from hair loss, arthritis and other complications of the condition, and is flown twice-a-year to Boston for medication and research by the Progeria Research Foundation.  The Foundation was instrumental in the 2003 discovery of the Progeria Gene and are now hoping to work towards finding a cure

Chinotimba grabs laptop – Newsday

1 Sep

War veteran Joseph Chinotimba demanded and received a laptop from Information and Communication Technology minister Nelson Chamisa yesterday, saying he would use the laptop to record all the farms he grabbed.

Chinotimba received the laptop at Chamisa’s office.
He told NewsDay yesterday: “What do you use laptops for? It is a government exercise for people and I want to write down all the farms we took under the land reform programme and also to have names of the remaining farms so that we take them and give people like you.”

Chinotimba — known for his clownish behaviour and not-so-fluent English — led the infamous land invasions in 2000 and rose in dramatic rags-to-riches style from being a municipal police officer to a businessman.

Mikel Arteta: lure of Champions League impossible to resist

1 Sep

Sad for Everton, happy for Arteta but will Wenger place faith in him? Suppose he has no choice but to don’t he?

New Arsenal signing Mikel Arteta revealed that he was tempted to leave Everton by the promise of Champions League football.

After completing a £10 million deadline day move the Spanish midfielder revealed: ‘It is a big challenge, a different challenge, fresh for me and I want to see myself on the biggest stage, the Champions League. I am 29-years-old so I haven’t got much time left to take a chance like this one. I think I have done my best for Everton.’

Arteta joined Arsenal on a four year contract but admitted he would be sorry to leave Everton after six-and-a-half years. He added: ‘It is very difficult to say goodbye. I still can’t believe it but at the same time I think it is the right moment for everyone.

‘That is the way football is, there is always a start and an end and today is the end of probably the best time of my career. I am never going to forget it. Obviously I am never going to forget what I have done here and what the people and this club have done for me.’

Sleep with an minor first time and get away with Community service as long as you say you will marry her. Sengu!

1 Sep

Herald Court Reporter
CAPS United Football Club defender David “Maketo” Sengu yesterday escaped a custodial sentence after he was ordered to perform 525 hours of community service for bedding his under-age lover.
Sengu (26) had pleaded guilty to statutory rape when he appeared before Mbare magistrate Mrs Patience Ururu-Madondo.
Sengu, who was brought to court in khakhi prison garb and leg irons, was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment of which 15 months were suspended on condition of good behaviour.

A further 15 months were suspended on condition he completes 525 hours of community service at Machipisa Police Station.
This means Sengu will be providing free labour at the police station for 17 weeks.
Before passing sentence, Mrs Ururu-Madondo had asked Sengu if he was still in love with the minor in question who has now turned 16 and what his intentions were.

Sengu said he was still in love with the girl and he wanted to marry her.
“Has she turned 16 or he is still committing an offence?” the magistrate asked the prosecutor.
The State confirmed that the girl had indeed turned 16.

In passing sentence, the magistrate said she considered that Sengu was a first offender.
“He pleaded guilty thereby saving the court’s time, he is also a youthful offender who is not yet married . . . against this background however, accused committed an offence of a serious nature.
“The legislature crafted this offence in order to protect young girls from exploitation and this court is alive to that fact,” she said.

She said a fine would trivialise the offence and imprisonment would be too harsh on Sengu.
“Accused is not yet married and is looking forward to marrying the girl. I considered community service as the appropriate punishment,” she said.
The agreed facts are that on November 9 last year Sengu proposed love to the 15-year-old girl and she agreed a month later.

Sometime during the same month Sengu went to the girl’s residence and picked her up. He slept with the girl three times until January this year.
The offence came to light after the girl’s mother, who was based in South Africa, came back home and heard that her daughter was having an affair.

The girl’s mother asked her about the issue.
The minor revealed that she was in an intimate love affair with Sengu.

Mutinhiri fired for behaviour inconsistent with Zanu PF

Did you get the charges? Behaviour not consistent with Zanu PF. lol

Takunda Maodza Senior Herald Reporter
ZANU-PF yesterday dismissed Marondera East legislator Mrs Tracy Mutinhiri from the party with immediate effect following recommendations by its national disciplinary committee.

She could also lose her position in Government where she is Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Services.
Mrs Mutinhiri was found guilty of behaviour inconsistent with the party’s principles.

The Politburo met yesterday and resolved to dismiss the former Women’s League national political commissar.
Zanu-PF spokesperson Cde Rugare Gum-bo confirmed the development yesterday.
“It was unanimously agreed that she should be dismissed from the party with immediate effect. Politburo has taken that position and the secretary for administration (Cde Didymus Mutasa) will advise her. We go by the decision of the disciplinary committee,” Cde Gumbo said.
He said the Politburo was yet to decide on the fate of Mrs Mutinhiri’s position in Government.

Mrs Mutinhiri was last month found guilty of violating the Zanu-PF constitution by the Mashonaland East provincial disciplinary committee.
She was found guilty of violating Article 3, Section 18 (1) of the party’s constitution for failing to be loyal to the party, failure to conduct herself honestly and honourably in her dealings with the party and public and bringing Zanu-PF into disrepute.

Mrs Mutinhiri was initially suspended from Zanu-PF on the same charges, but appealed against the decision to the party’s national chairman Cde Simon Khaya-Moyo.
In her appeal, she claimed to have conducted herself “with dignity and honour and never brought the party into disrepute and ridicule.”
Cde Gumbo said the Politburo also discussed disciplinary cases involving former Zanu-PF Mashonaland West provincial chairman Cde John Mafa and Cde Jamai Mudhuvuri and the cases were referred back to the province.

The Politburo was also briefed on the constitution-making process by Cde Munyaradzi Paul Mangwana.
“We got a brief from Cde Mangwana on the constitution-making process. He assured us that it is on course. They have finished the district reports and are now doing the provinces,” Cde Gumbo said.
He said according to the briefing by Cde Mangwana, the actual drafting of the constitution could start on September 15 this year.

The Politburo further got a briefing on preparations for the Zanu-PF National People’s Conference with Cde Gumbo announcing that the annual event will be held in Bulawayo from December 6-10.
The recent Sadc Summit held in Angola was also deliberated on.
“We were briefed on the summit in Angola and we are happy with the report,” he said.
